Destinations

Mariehamn – Åland's summery capital

Mariehamn Airport is located just about 3.8 km outside of Mariehamn in Åland. Here, visitors can explore the Maritime Quarter in the Eastern Harbor, shop for crafts, and enjoy delicious food. The Åland Maritime Museum and the museum ship Pommern in the Western Harbor offer fun activities for both adults and children.

Food plays a central role in Åland, where rye bread is now Finland's national dish but where local ingredients and seasonal products are highly valued. Traditions are characterized by respect for nature and sustainability, with a focus on using and caring for local resources. On restaurant menus, you can often see the AX label indicating that the dishes contain locally produced Ålandic ingredients.
